Today, I came across a great FREE (always nice!) tool that allows you to check your search engine position for an exact keyword or keyword phrase in Google, Yahoo and Live.
You can then go further and a whole host of keywords to a full report which then includes backlinks.

Very cool. SEOKeywordRanking.com is a similar tool (also free) that will track your SERP position over time and send you emails with a progress report that includes charts.
